POM Field Office nabs Millions-Worth of Firecrackers

To safeguard the Filipinos this Christmas from products that may endanger and harm their lives as they celebrate the yuletide season, the POM X-ray Filed Office operatives headed by Field Officer Renato Palgan have recently foiled attempts to smuggle several shipments of firecrackers estimated to worth at least Php 5 Million on three separate occasions last October 28 and 29, 2010, after the shipments were subjected to x-ray inspection by X-ray Inspectors Mark Castro, Serviliano Pelayo and Romel Enriquez, respectively.

On the first apprehension, the consignee Blueharbor Commercial Inc. declared the two forty-footer container vans from China to contain bed sheets while on the second, the consignee Denvar Trading declared the forty-footer container van from China as school and office supplies. However, on both separate occasions the x-ray images showed that the contents of the shipments were firecrackers and pyrotechnics, and not the items declared on the import documents. Because of these derogatory x-ray findings, an alert order has been issued by the commissioner against the shipments.
